Katie discovered her love for art in high school where she was the Pres. of the National Art Honor Society. at Peace College, she studied graphic design, drawing and 2 D design while majoring in Human Resources, Communications and Leadership Studies with a minor in advertising. Learning to sew while in college, she created a website and sold her handmade handbags. Upon graduation, her bags were sold in Cleveland Springs Gallery in Shelby, NC and in other venues.

As for jewelry making, she had made jewelry as a hobby. Designing and making jewelry for herself and friends became a 15 year venture which has developed through classes in bead weaving and freeform sculpture into  creations of twisted and sculpted wire, beaded bracelets and cuffs and earrings. Katie has been a consignment artist with Buffalo Creek Gallery and is now a member.
