I taught art in Cleveland County and Gaston County Schools before supervising arts education programs. I recently retired as a principal in Gaston County Schools completing 37 years of public education experience. Throughout my art teaching career, I conducted many workshops in art and teaching for area, state and regional teachers. During my educational career I was named Cleveland County Teacher of the Year, North Carolina Art Teacher of the Year and Gaston County Assistant Principal of the Year. On a national level, I was recognized as a National Secondary Educator of the Year in 1983.

My personal inspiration for tapestry design comes from observation of nature and architecture. I am particularly drawn to windows and doorways. I have explored the use of organic and geometric shapes in my work as well as mixed media. Using photography has helped me capture images which could be enlarged, manipulated or cropped then worked into woven images. Coiled basketry has offered me the opportunity to work with fibers in a 3 dimensional style. Currently, I am exploring translating digitized images into tapestry.

I continue to look forward to new learning and exploration in fibers as well as other media.
